Noctua confirms compatibility with Intel Xeon E5-2600 (Square ILM)
Vienna, March 15th 2012 - Noctua today confirmed the compatibility of its NM-I2011 SecuFirm2™ mounting system with Intel's new LGA2011 based Xeon E5-2600 platform with Square ILM. All Noctua heatsinks since 2005 can be installed on Square ILM LGA2011 Xeon sockets using the NM-I2011 kit and the new NH-D14 SE2011 and NH-L12 coolers are compatible out of the box.
Based on the latest Sandy Bridge-EP architecture, Intel's new Xeon E5 platform brings about a significant boost in I/O performance and performance/watt efficiency compared to the pervious generation of Westmere-EP based Xeon CPUs.
There are two different types of ILM (Independent Loading Mechanism) for Intel's Xeon E5-2600 platform: Square ILM with 80x80mm hole spacing and Narrow ILM with 56x94mm hole spacing.
The Square ILM LGA2011 socket for Xeon E5-2600 is mechanically identical to the LGA2011 socket on Intel's X79 desktop platform for Core i7-3900 and Core i7-3800 CPUs. As a result, Noctua's NM-I2011 SecuFirm2™ mounting system for LGA2011 is fully compatible with Square ILM LGA2011 sockets and can be used to install any Noctua heatsink since 2005 on the new Xeon E5-2600 CPUs.
Noctua's latest CPU cooler models, NH-D14 SE2011 and NH-L12, already include LGA2011 mounting hardware and can be installed on Xeon E5-2600 platforms with Square ILM without further upgrades.
However, neither the NM-I2011 kit nor the NH-D14 SE2011 and NH-L12 are compatible with Narrow ILM LGA2011 sockets. A mounting solution for Xeon E5-2600 with Narrow ILM is planned for later this year.
Custom cooler bundles with LGA2011 mounting hardware for Square ILM Xeon E5-2600 are available for system integrators and industry clients on request.
