NF-R8
Even at its default 1800 RPM speed, our system sees a rise in overall noise of four decibels, with the NF-R8 pushing plenty of air into the case with only a barely audible quantity of noise. Using the low noise adapter to reduce the fan speed to 1300 RPM sees a small but noticeable reduction in the amount of air being pushed by the fan, but also sees the amount of noise drop by a couple of decibels, to the point where it was hardly audible to the naked ear.
"With the NF-R8 and NF-S12 fans on show today, Noctua promised good performance coupled with quiet running, and in that sense these parts did exactly what was asked of them - All of these three parts can shift air in or out of a case efficiently, and do so without creating a lot of noise. On top of this, the addition of low-noise adapters to reduce the speed of these fans gives users at least some more granularity with regard to the noise level produced by these parts, allowing for a choice of all-out airflow or less airflow coupled with less noise."
