I wanted to be able to test these fans without having to connect them to a computer. After a quick pin 14 mod to an old 200w PSU I had lying around, I could plug them in and fire them up. Nothing happened. Well - nothing audible anyway. The fans were spinning, but over the ambient noise (fish tank filters in next room and another computer behind me) I could not hear them at all. When I powered down the computer behind me, and put my ear next to the fans, I could hear them - slightly. The 80mm fan, as you could expect due to its higher RPM made a slight "spin" noise, but in truth the only noise that was audible from the 120mm was the sound of the air moving past my ear. Impressive.
