With the stock fans installed, the NH-D15 idled at 34 degrees Celsius, while going as high as 71 degrees Celsius under full load when tested with Intel’s i7-4790K at 4.00GHz. Sound was at a consistent 33 dBA while idling, increasing to 42 dBA going full-tilt. The numbers are indicative of the progress Noctua has made with the NH-D15, which manages to outdo its predecessor in both noise levels and cooling efficiency. The innovative enhancements from the NH-D14 — including the trimming of the finstack at the bottom — make it one of the best dual-tower designs currently available. Noctua’s NH-D15 sets a new benchmark for air-cooled heatsinks, with the cooler often edging out several liquid AIO options. The $100 price tag is entirely justified when you look at the quality of the components, and the fact that the heatsink runs near-silent. If you’re looking to go with an air-cooled option and have an enclosure large enough (all enclosures with a 120mm exhaust fan can accommodate the heatsink), look no further than the NH-D15.
