As you can see from the results there is a slight performance increase over the NF-9-1600 but not much, only a degree, and we can see that running the NF-B9 at 1600RPMS or 1300RPMS there is no difference in the performance either. Overall, yes we see better temps with the NF-B9 and it's very quiet as well...

NF-B9 Review

I found that at the stock speed the fan was audible, but at a much more satisfactory tone than compared to a fan of similar dBA output. Using either of the adaptors and you'll have to come close to becoming Van Gogh before you'll hear the familiar hum of the blade swishing through the air. More importantly, the fan pushes a lot more air than other fans of this size for the same noise output; I couldn't find another 92mm fan that came close to the figures that Noctua list on the box.

I've seen many generic PC's that use 92mm fans which are far too loud for what they are doing. At our airflow test, Noctua's fan delivered maximum airflow compared to the other contestants. From several previous reviews, we have seen that Noctua specialises in making silent cooling products, and this is proved here, as the NF-B9 proved to perform without annoying the user.

Pagal gautus rezultatus matome, kad Noctua NF-B9, kad ir būdamas toks mažas ventiliatorius, vistiek sugeba padėti aušinti kompiuterį. Ramybės rėžime stulbinančių rezultatų neparodė. Temperatūra sumažėjo tik keletu laipsniu, bet apkrovus procesorių, jo temperatūra buvo net 5 laipsniais mažesnė negu be NF-B9. Tai labai geras rezultatas.

Los datos fueron categóricos, Noctua tuvo un mejor desempeño y bajo considerablemente las temperaturas, al parecer sus aspas mejoradas dan una mejor presión estática y por ende un mejor flujo de aire.
Test verdict: "En realidad determinamos que el desempeño de este ventilador es casi insuperable, ya que a esas RPM ningún ventilador te genera esa presión estática y por sobre todo a un nivel sonoro bastante bajo. Le temperature verranno monitorate in tre situazioni differenti: con dissipatore stock senza ventola (passivo), con ventola originale nVidia ed infine con la Noctua NF-B9. Come possiamo notare nel primo grafico le temperature rilevate con dissipatore completamente passivo sono davvero elevate, la situazione migliora anche se di poco aggiungendo la ventola originale, ma sostituendo quest'ultima con la Noctua, la situazione cambia sostanzialmente con un vantaggio di ben 12°C per il NorthBridge e 15°C per il SouthBridge. La situazione mettendo sotto stress il sistema non cambia di molto, infatti abbiamo un miglioramento delle temperature pari a 14°C per il NorthBridge e 17°C per il SouthBridge. Che dire, risultato stupefacente.

Can I use Noctua fans on my fan controller?

Our fans are compatible with the vast majority of fan controllers on the market. However, there is a compatibility issue with a few models such as the Zalman ZM-MFC2 and Bitfenix Recon, which apply Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) on the 12V line and use an unfavourable PWM carrier frequency. This can create an oscillation when used with certain fans, which will result in the fan speeding up and down. We therefore recommend not using the Zalman ZM-MFC2 or Bitfenix Recon with our fans.

My fan doesn’t spin when I start up the PC - is it faulty?

If you've connected the fan directly (or using the supplied Low-Noise or Ultra-Low-Noise-Adaptors) to your mainboard, it's possible that the mainboard's automatic fan controller doesn't provide the required starting voltage due to the low CPU temperature. Please verify whether the fan starts spinning at higher CPU temperatures, remove any Low-Noise or Ultra-Low-Noise Adaptors, deactivate your mainboard's automatic fan controller in the BIOS or connect the fan directly to the power supply using the supplied 3:4-pin adaptor.

Can I run Noctua 3-pin fans on 4-pin PWM connectors and use my mainboard’s automatic fan controller?

You can simply connect our fan's 3-pin connector to the 4-pin PWM sockets of today's mainboards so that the fourth pin that transmits the PWM signal is left blank (due to the shape of the connector, there's no danger of reversing polarity). Some mainboards (e.g. current Gigabyte models) are capable of controlling fans not only via PWM, but also by adjusting the supplied voltage. In some cases, this may require you to change BIOS options like "Fan Control Mode" from "PWM" to "Voltage" or "Analog". Please consult your mainboard's manual in this regard. However, some mainboards use an "auto" setting by default that automatically chooses PWM or voltage based regulation according to the connected fan. Automatically controlling the fan speed may not possible on mainboards that pulse the power rather than lowering the fan voltage.


The fan doesn’t start with the Ultra-Low-Noise Adaptor (ULNA)!

Unfortunately, many Gigabyte mainboards use a special control circuit that can lead to start-up problems in conjunction with the Ultra-Low-Noise Adaptor (ULNA). This control circuit remains active even when automatic fan control is disabled in the BIOS. In these cases, please use the fan without the ULNA or connect it directly to the power supply (or an external fan controller) in order to ensure reliable operation with the ULNA.

Can I use Low-Noise Adaptors with y-cables / multiple fans?

Yes, Low-Noise Adaptors (L.N.A.s) can be used with y-cables, but please make sure to use one L.N.A. per fan and to place the L.N.A.s between the y-cable and the fans as shown below. Never use one L.N.A. for two (or more fans) by placing it between the mainboard and the y-cable!


Can I use Noctua fans in my system from Acer, Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo or other major brands?

Noctua 12V fans comply with the established specifications for standard PC systems issued by Intel and AMD. Systems from Acer, Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo or other major brands often deviate from these specifications e.g. by using proprietary fan headers, custom pin-alignments or pin-configurations, different methods of fan speed control, etc. This can lead to compatibility issues when using Noctua fans in systems from said brands. Some of these problems can be avoided with some technical knowledge, but especially BIOS related issues (e.g. errors or shutdowns due to low fan speed) can often not be resolved. As a result, Noctua does not officially support systems from Acer, Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo or other major brands.
