New overclocking records with Noctua's NH-D14
Vienna, October 7th 2010 - Continuing the latest series of overclocking records using Noctua's NH-D14, overclockers from the United Kingdom and Slovenia have joined the the Chilean overclocking squad from UnknownTeam.cl in pushing their CPUs over the 5GHz barrier using Noctua's flagship model. Tom Logan from Overclock3D.net got his Intel Core i7 970 to 5012Mhz and Miha Šabič from TesT-InG.com made it to a breathtaking 5502MHz on his Core i5 680.
"Many of the regular readers know the Noctua NH-D14 is my weapon of choice and just so happens to be the air cooler that stopped me fussing around with water cooling all the time, I think this quite easily demonstrates why!" says Tom Logan from Overclock3D.net after cracking the 5GHz barrier.
Logan pushed the core voltage of his Core i7 970 up to 1.528V and Šabic, after first being stuck at 5490MHz, even went to a blistering 1.648V in order to reach the 5.5Ghz mark. Remarkably, both overclockers have achieved their outstanding results with the NH-D14's stock configuration of Noctua's super quiet NF-P12 and NF-P14 fans, demonstrating that record speeds can be achieved without using noisy fans.
"Despite the high overclock and excessive voltages, Noctua's NH-D14 had no problems cooling the CPU and also remained absolutely quiet, which is really amazing." explains Miha Šabič. "We've tried this with other coolers but without success. The bottom line is that the NH-D14 is one of the best, if not the best, air cooler out there and we highly recommend it to everyone who wants to build a cool, quiet system with lots of overclocking headroom."
