FAQ: 83mm (NM-AM5/4-MP83) vs. 78mm (NM-AM5/4-MP78) mounting pitch, which kit do I need?

Depending on the model, most Noctua CPU coolers feature a mounting pitch (distance between the spring-loaded mounting screws) of either 83mm (coolers with two-piece fastening brackets) or 78mm (coolers with single-piece fastening brackets). Coolers with 83mm mounting pitch require the MP83 kit whereas coolers with 78mm mounting pitch require the MP78 version.

Please note that Noctua coolers that aren’t listed in the table above use different mounting systems and cannot be upgraded to AM5 using the NM-AM5/4-MP83 or NM-AM5/4-MP78. For NH-L9a, NH-L9a-AM4 and NH-L9i, please use the NM-AM5-L9aL9i.
