Der NH-L9x65 von Noctua überzeugt mit dem bekannt, einfachen SecuFirm Montagesystem, welches dank Herstellersupport auch noch für weitere, zukünftige Sockel weiterentwickelt wird und natürlich der Performance. Ein Blick auf das Diagram zeigt es bereits, der L9x65 liegt in allen Leistungsstufen vorne. Ein halbes Grad bzw. maximal zwei Grad sind nicht viel und gerade ersteres kann man unter dem Thema Messabweichung verbuchen, aber bei welcher Geräuschkulisse diese Performance abgeliefert wird ist ein deutlicher Unterschied zu unserem letzten Testkandidaten dem C7 von Cryorig. Beide Lüfter haben eine maximale RPM von 2500 und wohingegen man den C7 Lüfter auf unter 50% runterregeln muss, um ihn zum Flüstern zu bewegen. Den Noctua Fan kann man da ruhig auf 70% laufen lassen – echt beeindruckend.

C'est un bel engin comme sait en faire la marque autrichienne. Il impressionne ensuite par ses performances. Nous avons pu voir que ce ventirad est capable de tenir tête à plus gros que lui sans rougir. Les performances sont très bonnes, même avec un processeur de 140W à refroidir.

Noctua reizt die Außenmaße gekonnt aus, ohne andere Erweiterungsslots zu beeinträchtigen. Selbst der geringe Abstand zum ersten RAM-Slot ist unbedenklich, sodass auch Speicherriegel mit hohen Heatspreadern genutzt werden können. Die Verarbeitung ist wie gewohnt hochwertig und einwandfrei, scharfe Kanten oder ähnliches suchten wir vergebens. Allerdings hat diese Qualität seinen Preis, mit rund 42,- € (Stand 07.09.2016) ist der Kühler nicht günstig. Ein weiterer Kritikpunkt ist, dass der Lüfter bei schnelleren Drehzahlen eine zu hohe Geräuschentwicklung aufweisen kann. Doch hierfür gibt es eine hauseigene Abhilfe, denn Noctua legt dem Zubehör ab Werk einen Low-Noise-Adapter (Modell NA-RC7) bei. Mit dessen Hilfe werden die allgemeinen Drehzahlen des Lüfters reduziert, was sich in einem viel leiseren Betrieb widerspiegelt. Auswirkungen auf die Temperaturen hatte dies bei unserem i5-6600 (65 Watt TDP) nur minimal, wodurch wir selbst unter hoher Last problemlos eine Kombination aus guter und leiser Kühlung erreichen konnten.
Test verdict: "Mit dem NH-L9x65 zeigt Noctua, dass der gerade mal 65 Millimeter hohe Kühl-“Würfel“ einiges zu leisten vermag. Auf unserem i5-Testsystem lagen die Temperaturen in einem guten Bereich, weshalb er sich als empfehlenswerte Alternative für kompakte Gehäuse anbietet, die nicht viel Platz für Bauhöhen haben. През последните няколко години компанията Noctua създаде много сериозно име в IT средите, особено когато става дума за охладители за процесори, или пък вентилатори за монтаж в компютърните шасита. Макар конкуренцията винаги да е била много сериозна, а понякога и доста добре ценово ориентирана, с високото ниво на качество на своите предложения, Noctua съумяха да се позиционират в най-високите нива на производители на споменатите компютърни продукти. Едва ли са много хората, които не са чували за вездесъщият процесорен охладител Noctua NH-D14, който междувпрочем съвсем скоро ще е напълно съвместим с процесорите на AMD с архитектура Zen и Socket AM4, благодарение на новите крепежни елементи, които от Noctua ще раздават (за пореден път) безплатно на всеки потребител, който може чрез документ да докаже, че притежава дънна платка и процесор за Socket AM4, както и разбира се охладител Noctua. Но да не се разсейваме излишно, ами да обърнем внимание конкретно на фокуса на този материал – процесорите Skylake и тяхното охлаждане.

La colocación en la placa base es, como en todos los disipadores de Noctua, fácil y sencilla, permitiéndonos en este caso, tener gran amplitud a la hora de instalarlo, sin que entorpezca con el resto de componentes.

Nos tests dévoilent de bonnes performances avec un processeur à la limite de sa dissipation maximale conseillée. Le refroidissement est là avec un silence à souligner en mode PWM. Ce ventirad répond bien aux souhaits d’assurer une température correcte du processeur dans un espace réduit.

Le NH-L9x65 est un peu à part dans ce comparatif car c'est le seul modèle dit "top flow". Il est de ce fait le modèle le plus compact et n'a pas à rougir devant les autres puisqu'il parvient à rester très proche de leur performances.

The performance was tested on an Intel Core i5-4670K overclocked to 4.3Ghz at 1.25 vcore with room temperature set to 25°C and the system was tested with a 10bit to 8bit video conversion test. Below are the results.
Test verdict: "The Noctua NH-L9x65 Low-Profile CPU Cooler retails at RM 249, it’s a lot thicker than the NH-L9i but what you get is a cooler that is able to tame the heat levels of processor with high TDP. Should I take the cooler off before transporting my system?

Due to the low weight of the cooler, it is not necessary to take it off for transport.

How can I determine if the motherboard’s UEFI BIOS is overclocking my processor by default and deactivate this automatic overclocking?

Most motherboard vendors allow their overclocking-enabled products (e.g. those with Intels X- or Z-series chipsets) to run the processor at increased clock speeds by default, without requiring any user action at all. Since TDP (Thermal Design Power) limits are usually also disabled by default, this leads to the CPU exceeding the rated TDP to a varying degree, depending on the used applications and their workloads. Due to the increased heat output of the CPU, you may see higher CPU temperatures than expected.

In order to find out if your motherboard is overclocking your processor by default, please enter the UEFI BIOS and select the “advanced” or “overclocking” menu. There you should be able to find options such as “MultiCore Enhancement” (options: enabled/disabled), “CPU Ratio Apply Mode” (options: all/per core) or similar. To disable the automatic overclocking, adjust the settings either to “disabled” or “per core” and make sure that the individual multipliers match the original specifications.

In doubt, please contact your motherboard vendor for detailed instructions on how to disable this feature.

My unlocked Intel CPU is running too hot although my heatsink supports the specified TDP, what's the problem?

Intel's unlocked CPUs (K, X and C suffix) can dissipate more heat than indicated by the TDP specification if
  1. the TDP limits are extended or disabled in the motherboards' BIOS.
  2. the motherboard applies automatic overclocking by default, e.g. by raising the supply voltage of the CPU and using higher Turbo-Mode multipliers.
  3. some software creates untypical loads, e.g. Prime95 with AVX2 support and a) and/or b) apply.

This can lead to temperature issues, especially when using smaller coolers or compact cases.

The actual power draw of the processor can be monitored with software provided by the motherboard vendor or with 3rd party tools like HWInfo or HWMonitor.

If you encounter temperature issues (>90°C) and notice a higher than specified power draw, please ensure that no automatic overclocking is applied and limit the TDP to the specified value by choosing appropriate BIOS settings.

For Kaby Lake CPUs, it may also help to lower the CPU clock speed for applications that heavily use the AVX instruction set, which can lead to higher loads and power draw. This option is usually referred to as “AVX offset” and makes it possible to lower the multiplier specifically for AVX based applications without reducing performance when using other instruction sets. Depending on the quality of the CPU and the programs being used, a reduction of 2-3 steps usually gives very good results.

Please contact your motherboard vendor for details if you have trouble finding the appropriate settings in the BIOS.

All our TDP recommendations are based on thorough testing with the default values specified by Intel using popular applications such as Asus Realbench and prime95. Please note, however, that prime95 creates a particularly high load that goes beyond typical application scenarios and this leads to elevated temperatures. We thus recommend using other programs such as Realbench for checking the stability and temperatures of the CPU in realistic scenarios.
