Award-winning NF-A14 design
Having received more than 100 awards and recommendations from the international press, Noctua's NF-A14 has become a proven premium choice for 140mm cooling needs. Its renowned efficiency has convinced tens of thousands of customers all over the world.
|
3000rpm industrialPPC version
Running twice as fast as the 1500rpm retail version, the NF-A14 industrialPPC-3000 provides extreme airflow and pressure performance. Combined with the industrialPPC series' robust polyamide construction and advanced protection features, this makes the fan ideal for challenging industrial applications.
|
24V version
The industrialPPC 24V Q100 models use Noctua's NE-FD4 three-phase PWM motor driver IC. Supporting operating voltages from 6 to 30V, these models are ideal for 24V-based industrial applications and voltage- or PWM-based speed control.
|
Lower speed and noise levels in 12V PC environments
While the industrialPPC 24V model has been designed with 24V industrial applications in mind, it runs at a maximum speed of around 1800rpm in 12V PC environments and can be slowed down further via PWM, thus combining industrialPPC features and design with Noctua’s signature quietness.
|
NE-FD4 PWM IC with SCD
Supporting fully automatic PWM speed control, the fan uses Noctua’s custom-designed NE-FD4 PWM IC for 24V three-phase motors. The NE-FD4 is AEC-Q100 qualified and integrates Noctua's proprietary Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD) technology, which suppresses PWM switching noise and thus makes the fan quieter at lower speeds.
|
AEC-Q100 qualification
The 24V Q100 version’s NE-FD4 motor driver IC complies with the Automotive Electronics Council’s highly rigorous AEC-Q100 failure-mechanism-based stress test qualification for integrated circuits, which makes the fan ideal for use in automotive applications.
|
High electrical robustness
Meeting the AEC-Q100 standard’s stringent requirements for burst and surge protection, the 24V Q100 version’s high electrical robustness permits the fan to be used not only in automotive projects but also in other harsh environments with transients from electric motors and other inductive switching loads.
|
Inrush current suppression
The fan’s voltage-stabilised inrush current suppression provides a smooth power-up and dramatically reduces power line transients that otherwise could affect other electronic components connected to the power line. This makes the fan safe to use in sensitive electronic environments.
|
Three-phase motor design
While most axial fans use single-phase motors with 4 slots, Noctua's industrialPPC fans feature a three-phase design with 6 slots, which provides smoother transitions between the slots and thus allows for even higher running smoothness, further reduced vibrations and unprecedented energy efficiency.
|
Certified IP67 water- and dust protection
The motor and PCB of the IP67 version are completely cast in a special, highly heat conductive resin that combines thoroughgoing protection and effective motor heat dissipation. Complying with the ingress protection rating IP67, this fan is not only fully dust tight but also completely waterproof up to 1m water depth.
|
Fibre-glass reinforced polyamide construction
Both the impeller and the frame of Noctua’s industrialPPC fans are made entirely from fibre-glass reinforced polyamide. This material can withstand temperatures up to 140°C and makes the fans even more robust and break-proof than Noctua’s standard fibre-glass reinforced PBT fans.
|
Flow Acceleration Channels
The NF-A14 impeller features suction side Flow Acceleration Channels. By speeding up the airflow at the crucial outer blade regions, this measure reduces suction side flow separation and thus leads to better efficiency and lower vortex noise.
|
AAO frame
Noctua's AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimisation) frames feature integrated anti-vibration pads as well as Noctua's proprietary Stepped Inlet Design and Inner Surface Microstructures, both of which further refine the fan's performance/noise efficiency.
|
Stepped Inlet Design
Noctua's Stepped Inlet Design adds turbulence to the influx in order to facilitate the transition from laminar flow to turbulent flow, which reduces tonal intake noise, improves flow attachment and increases suction capacity, especially in space-restricted environments.
|
Inner Surface Microstructures
With the tips of the fan blades ploughing through the boundary layer created by the Inner Surface Microstructures, flow separation from the suction side of the blades is significantly suppressed, which results in reduced blade passing noise and improved airflow and pressure efficiency.
|
Integrated anti-vibration pads
Integrated anti-vibration pads made from extra-soft silicone minimise the transmission of minute vibrations while maintaining full compatibility with all standard screws and other mounting systems.
|
SSO2 Bearing
The NF-A14 industrialPPC features the further optimised second generation of Noctua's renowned, time-tested SSO bearing. With SSO2, the rear magnet is placed closer to the axis to provide even better stabilisation, precision and durability.
|
Metal bearing shell
In order to guarantee the highest possible degree of manufacturing precision, minimum tolerance and excellent long-term stability, the NF-A14 industrialPPC sports a CNC milled bearing shell made entirely from brass.
|
6-year manufacturer’s warranty
Noctua fans are renowned for their impeccable quality and outstanding longevity. Like all Noctua fans, the NF-A14 industrialPPC features an MTTF rating of more than 150.000 hours and comes with a full 6-year manufacturer’s warranty.

NF-A14 industrialPPC-24V-3000 Q100 IP67 PWM Review
|
|||||||
Test verdict: "Aktualnie są to najbezpieczniejsze wentylatory na rynku więc zdecydowanie polecam ich zakup, w szczególności do specjalizowanych zastosowań."

NF-A14 industrialPPC-24V-3000 Q100 IP67 PWM Review
As much as these two fans may look like a standard PC fan, they are industrial fans, so it is a bit hard to compare them to a typical PC fan. Will they work in your home PC? Sure - they will work just fine, but you will never get them to run at their maximum rated speeds on the 12V from the PSU in your home system. You need 24V to get the maximum speeds and that of course requires a dedicated external 24V power source. Who would go to that much trouble and expense when Noctua has a full line of case and cooler fans that are just perfect for your PC?
These industrialPPC fans are intended for use in an industrial environment where 24V is typically available. Moisture and dirt are often encountered in an industrial environment and that is exactly where these fans are best used. The IP67 rating ensures that the internal components are protected and these fans are up to the task of reliably moving air in an industrial application. The AEC-Q100 qualification ensures that these fans meet the failure-mechanism-based stress tests for integrated circuits.

NF-A14 industrialPPC-24V-3000 Q100 IP67 PWM Review
Noctua is known as one of the elites in the PC cooling hardware community. They have multiple award winning products and are always at the top of the performance lists. For this grouping of fans I expected much of the same. Overall I do believe that Noctua delivers. There should be no doubt that a cooling fan from Noctua is going to be a high quality product. The industrialPPC Q100 140mm and industrialPPC Q100 120mm provided for this review confirmed this, and showed that even in the narrower field of 120mm and 140mm fans that there are plenty of things you can do to distinguish one model from another.
|
|||||||
Test verdict: "The fans are all high quality and will help keep your system cool. You can tell from the list of features just how much engineering and testing has gone into making these fans as efficient as possible." (Ambrosidou Nat, XtremeSystems.org)

NF-A14 industrialPPC-24V-3000 Q100 IP67 PWM Review

Where can I find a technical documentation and specifications of the PWM speed control system of Noctua’s fans?
How much torque should be used for fan screws?
Can I use Noctua fans in my system from Acer, Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo or other major brands?
How can I check if my 4-pin fan header supports PWM?

Note that mainboard manufacturers use different terms to indicate that Pin 4 is not being used for PWM control (e.g. “+5V”, “VCC” or “NC”), but if one of these terms is used, you can be sure that the fan header does not support PWM. If Pin 4 is described as “Speed Control” or “PWM” or the like, you can be sure that the fan header supports PWM.
Unfortunately, the description of Pin 2 is not always a clear indication as some manufacturers use terms such as “Fan PWR” or “Power” for both types of fan headers. However, if Pin 2 is described as “Speed Control”, you can also be sure that the fan header does not support PWM based speed control. If Pin 2 is described as “+12V”, this is a clear indication that the fan header supports PWM.
Please also note that in some cases, the descriptions of the pin layouts in the mainboard manuals may not be correct and some models actually allow you to switch the fan headers from voltage control mode to PWM control mode in the BIOS even though the pin descriptions do not indicate PWM support. We thus recommend to look for these options in the BIOS before taking other measures. In case of doubt, please contact your mainboard manufacturer.
If your mainboard features other 4-pin fan headers that use PWM for speed control, you can run multiple fans from these headers using Y-split cables. Make sure not to exceed the specified maximum power draw of the fan headers (usually 10-12W) though.
Can I use Low-Noise Adaptors with y-cables / multiple fans?
Yes, Low-Noise Adaptors (L.N.A.s) can be used with y-cables, but please make sure to use one L.N.A. per fan and to place the L.N.A.s between the y-cable and the fans as shown below. Never use one L.N.A. for two (or more fans) by placing it between the mainboard and the y-cable!
How should I clean my Noctua fan?
In order to ensure flawless operation over many years of usage, Noctua’s premium grade SSO bearings are fully sealed to prevent the entering of fine dust particles. Please note that the fan is not designed to be taken apart by the user. Removing the impeller from the frame will break the sealing of the bearing and results in a loss of warranty.
Can I run 4-pin PWM fans on 3-pin fan headers?
PWM fans come with a 4-pin connectors for fully automatic speed control via your mainboard’s 4-pin PWM fan headers. Please note that 4-pin fans can also be connected to your mainboard’s 3-pin fan headers though. When connected to 3-pin fan headers, the fan will run at full speed (unless the mainboard supports voltage based speed control).

Can I disassemble my fan for cleaning (or other purposes, e.g. painting)?
It is thus recommended to clean your fans using a duster, slightly moist tissue or canned air. Please be careful not to use too much force in order to prevent any damage to the fan. Please don’t use a vacuum cleaner as this may apply excessive force to the fan.
